Cowbridge Cricket
In the mid 1890’s E.H.Ebsworth, of Llandough Castle, prepared a wicket with the help of Kent’s Alex Hearne, in one of his fields in Cowbridge, called Cae Wyndham. Here, a Cowbridge XI played Bridgend Cricket Club in 1895.
By 1906 there were enough players in Cowbridge for a club called the Cowbridge Wanderers to be formed, together with a tennis and squash club. During the winter months football and rugby were played at Cae Wyndham.
In 1913 all of these separate teams merged to form the Cowbridge and District Athletic Club, and they purchased Cae Wyndham from Ebsworth.
Membership of the club is now buoyant, with adult 1st, 2nd and West Wales XIs being fielded each week. In addition to these, there are very active junior under 11, 13 and 15 XIs.
New members are very welcome. If you would like to become a member, there is a range of membership grades to chose from, either playing or non-playing.

Cowbridge Food & Drink Festival Goes Green
Cowbridge Food Festival is hoping to set a green example this year by holding a plastic bag amnesty.
On the festival weekend (October 27-28) local residents are being urged to hand over all their old plastic bags - and replace them with free canvas bags, courtesy of the Vale Council
The main collection point for old carrier bags will be in the festival marquee, and members of the Vale Council’s recycling team will also be handing out canvas bags outside the Town Hall, and at the Vale Farmer’s Market.
The festival manager, Polly Wilson, said: “This is a good opportunity to reduce the number of new bags that get produced and just thrown away.
” Iam sure that Cowbridge could become a plastic bag free town”
In the run-up to the festival, two Cowbridge stores, Spar and the Linen Cupboard, have said that they are happy to collect carrier bags if people want to leave their old bags.

The Museum of Welsh Life opened on 7 July 1948. Since then, it has established itself as one of Europe’s foremost open air museums, becoming Wales’ most popular heritage attraction. The Museum shows how the people of Wales lived, worked and spent their leisure time over the last five hundred years; and over the past fifty years it has inspired generations of visitors with an appreciation of Welsh history and tradition.
The Museum stands in the grounds of the magnificent St Fagans Castle, a late 16th century manor house generously donated to the people of Wales by the Earl of Plymouth.
