Cowbridge Cattle Market

Vale Council plans for developing the cattle market site in Cowbridge have run into the buffers after a long awaited report was put on hold.

A development brief for the site, which was due to be published in March, has been delayed - and council officers now say they cannot give a date when it will be published.

Alan John, speaking for the Cowbridge Chamber of Trade, said “The Chamber of trade would be quite happy to see the site stay the way it is - although it would be good to see a smooth road service there rather than the pot-holes.The important thing is that it gives people somewhere to park. We are very concerned that there should remain adequate parking for people who come to Cowbridge.

Also still in the pipeline is a Vale Council decision on whether to charge for car parking in the main town car park, behind the Town Hall.

However, parking charges were opposed by the Cowbridge Chamber of Trade, and by the local residents’ group, who argued that shoppers would park in already overcrowded streets.

They would certainly also argue that a cattle market development which took away parking spaces from the community would make things worse.
